Women’s Equality Day - August 31, 2025
View The Online Program
In Luke 10:38–42, Jesus visits Martha and Mary. While Martha is busy serving, Mary chooses to sit at Jesus’ feet—a posture traditionally reserved for male disciples. Instead of dismissing her, Jesus affirms Mary’s choice, declaring she has chosen “the better part.” In that moment, Jesus breaks cultural barriers, recognizing women’s equal capacity for spiritual growth, leadership, and discipleship.
On Women’s Equality Day, we remember that Jesus valued women not only by traditional roles, but by their gifts, wisdom, and devotion—affirming their equal place in God’s mission and in shaping our communities today.
Join us at Greater Bethel AME Church in Athens, Georgia on Sunday, August 31st, 2025 as we celebrate what Jesus has affirmed: the equality of women. Our Women’s Equality Day Service is more than an observance of the 1973 Congressional designation—it is a festive day of worship honoring three remarkable women: Adrienne Chappell, Bertha Troutman Rambeau, and Precious Jones.
📍 At 140 Rose Street in Athens, our day begins at 9:45 AM with Sunday School and breakfast, followed by our 11:00 AM worship service. Pastor Marben Bland will bring the message from Luke 10:38–42 entitled “Equality: The Better Part.” After worship, enjoy a Reception & Vendor’s Market featuring goods from our honorees.
